Verona is in the north of Italy, close to Padua and Venice. City location and history (PDF file).

Verona is a cosy medium sized city on the Adige river in the north of Italy. It has good air, an international airport and rail links. The climate is fine, with a daytime temperature in September of about 23°C. The best known typical products are ‘polenta’ (corn meal cooked in salted water, to be served with beans and games), ‘bolliti e salsa pearà’ (boiled beef and sauce with black pepper), Pandoro cake, white wines like Soave and Custoza Doc (Classic and Recioto), red wines like Bardolino and Valpolicella (Amarone and Recioto).

Lying near lake Garda (about 50 km), Verona still has the atmosphere of the past, which blends in harmoniously with the lively atmosphere of the present. In 2000, UNESCO included Verona in the list of World Cultural Heritage as a wonderful example of a town with Roman ruins, medieval vestiges (for example, from the Della Scala family also known as Scaligeri Seigniory), Venetian and Austrian traces, in its mythical dimension bestowed upon it by the Shakespearean tragedy of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
